Indiana Chapter of the Michigan Antique Phonograph Society
The Hoosier Antique Phonograph Society (HAPS) was host to Phonovention 2009. This renowned convention of antique phonograph and recording enthusiasts took place in Auburn, Indiana on July 31st through August 1st, 2009. The event featured several speakers and presentations including the leading acoustical recording expert, Peter Dilg, as the Keynote speaker. He conducted a live acoustic recording session of the Phonovention Brass Quintet. The “Phonovention Rag”, a newly commissioned 1909 style rag time musical composition, was performed and recorded several times on Edison Wax Cylinder records using original Edison studio recording equipment.
On September 21st, 2009, HAPS was honored to be invited to the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum in Milan, Ohio to bury the prepared Time Capsule containing the best performance of the “Phonovention Rag” cylinder record. The time capsule will be unearthed in the year 2109. For more details of our recent activities, please feel free to download our newsletter, The Hoosier-phone. The September 2009 edition provides in depth information of Phonovention 2009 and the Time Capsule.
The Hoosier Antique Phonograph Society holds four meetings each year traveling to member’s homes all over the State of Indiana, from Evansville to La Porte and from Richmond to Crawfordsville. We meet on Sunday afternoons starting at 1:00, feast from the host’s cuisine, and hold a brief business meeting. You’d be hard put to find a friendlier or more knowable group of antique phonograph collectors ready to help you get the answers and information you need to enjoy our pastime.
As a HAPS member, you’ll receive our Newsletter and can stay connected to our membership through frequent group E-Mail exchanges. Go to the Upcoming Events Link and plan on joining us at our next meeting.
